Helping the National Trust to safely remove a decaying tree

This tree at Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal was condemned after a tree report by the National Trust. Following sonic tomography it was found that the tree had severe decay at the base of the trunk – this meant the tree was too dangerous to climb and dismantle the way we would normally do it, so we brought in a specialist crane which could mechanically remove the canopy to a height we could reach with our MEWP. We then carefully removed sections of the trunk with the aid of the crane. The tree was safely removed without causing any damage to the Yew trees below.
